Conclusions of the NATO summit. Cartoon of 07/07/2022 in CTXT
As it came it went. The NATO summit in Madrid is over, but it left behind a stultifying amount of utterly dispensable opinions.
While the summit was being held in the usual bellicose atmosphere, the media, and also a good part of the opinionated tweeters, were focusing on how nice and shiny everything was, on the "outfit"(you don't know how I hate this word) of Begoña, Letizia's hairstyle or whether a woman was leering at Pdro Snchz.
Special mention should be made of those tiresome people who exclaim"Fotón!"at any snapshot because they are so easily excited by the most ordinary image of a guy looking at a painting or another guy sitting on a bench.
And as in any pastel party, there was no lack of the obligatory cutting of the balls, more concerned with the protocol than with the actual event itself
The summit could be summed up in the following way: while most of the leaders competed to see who could give Joe Biden the most and the loudest, Biden was staging his own Cold War re-enactment and sending more US troops to Europe. The rest of the countries, delighted, applauded the rearmament and its consequent military spending, which we will all pay for happily and contentedly because"Russia and China potatoes".
