Food insecurity

Food insecurity

Translation of the cartoon:

-I'm hungry
-It says food insecurity, so it's clear that you are educated.

The first definition spat out by the search engine of this redefinition by poverty concept at a glance is that of FAO and it goes like this:

"A person is food insecure when he or she lacks regular access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food for normal growth and development and an active and healthy life. This may be due to lack of availability of food and/or lack of resources to obtain it".

They also add the definition of hunger separately, which might lead one to think that one does not cause, or is caused by, the other.

Proponents of this vast catalogue of scaled-down euphemisms maintain that they are necessary to "make visible" (another tired and twisted verb for saying nothing) poverty. I see here an etymological and institutional posturing that deforms realities and presents our great and eternal miseries as new and small isolated problems.
